Makawao Real Estate
While many consider Maui a famous beach destination, it is also home to charming towns and thriving art communities. On the mid-slopes of Maui’s Haleakala volcano lies Makawao; a diverse community consisting of many artists and paniolo or Hawaiian cowboys. Makawao is a trip to Maui’s plantation past, dominated by agriculture and ranch land.
Unlike many other areas on Maui, its days and nights are cooler than much of the neighboring towns, and you won’t find a stoplight in sight. At its heart you will find a small collection of shops, including the popular family-owned T. Komoda Store and Bakery, selling their delicious “stick” donuts to those who get there early. Down the short street, you can find glassblowers and painters creating beautiful works for patrons in their shops. Locally owned boutiques and fresh eateries can also be found dotted down the road.
